Mission Statement: We
show support for our United States Military Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
through
*shipping care packages
*helping to promote and foster welcoming home events for local
veterans
*monetary assistance to U.S. military hospitals and care
facilities.
*Due to the recent withdrawl from Iraq shipments to that region have been
discontinued.
How it works: We collect care packages and exchange them for large handmade yellow ribbons (made by military family members of deployed soldiers). We inspect and sort everything. We then put together a large box of goodies from our supplies, and make the package large enough for the recipient and several of his or her peers. It is shipped and takes about 10 days to get to the recipient.
Who are the recipients? They are deployed military folks whose family has contacted the Yellow Ribbon Club to be put on the mailing list. The day we receive the name and address of the soldier, we ship out a box that day, then he or she goes into the rotating mailing list. When his or her name comes up again, in about 90 days another box is sent.
Families of Recipients: We like to stay in contact with families of soldiers especially during deployment. It is that time that is most difficult to stay positive while our loved ones are away. We meet once a month or so to chat and make ribbons. There is no requirement to make ribbons, it is just something that some of us do. We also get together to prepare for homecomings.
Welcome Home Celebrations: As our Military Heroes return home, we coordinate and attend celebrations in their home town communities to welcome them home in Grand style. Typically these celebrations include the local fire department, local police department, emergency medical services, Warriors' Watch Riders, Patriot Guard, Last Patrol Riders, Nam Knights, and of course the citizens of the community. Just our special way of saying "Thank You" to our Military Heroes.
